- It is important to know the import requirements for animals entering at any destination. Before arranging travel for your pet, please make sure all requirements have been met
- Sedation is not recommended. Before or during pet´s trip, the animal must travel fully capable to use their 5 senses
- Exercise your pet before asking or making get inside the cage, this way you spend excess of energy and will want to get in there to rest inside
- Keep positive mind and without forcing it to enter the cage. Otherwise the animal will think is going to be on a prison and have not even a clue on what is going on
- Check schedules: Before the trip, make sure you have tracking number with flight schedules, also make sure about customs schedules on arrival at destination, it is important planning everything and avoid unexpected surprises
It is important to mention that not all cages are approved by airlines for flying, so if your dog will travel by plane, make sure to do it once and do it right. The easiest way to identify is looking for the approved stamp or certified for aircraft, most of brand new cages have it, but be aware, there are another requirements cage must met, for example: Kennels must be made from rigid plastic, metal or wood, have adequate ventilation on all four sides, plastic bolts, nuts and screws must be replaced for metal ones, separate watering and dishes must be provided. For customized or oversized kennels, they can be constructed of certified wood built under the quality standards and specifications detailed in IATA´s LAR.
An easy and safe technique to know how to choose the size of the carrier is putting the cage side "along" right next to your dog, standing on its 4 legs and firm., you can easily see the remaining space both above the head of your pet, as along.
Snap-sided kennels, modified or adapted snap-side kennels (including the addition of nuts, bolts or screws), collapsible or folding kennels were accepted, however, some airlines are not accepting anymore. It is advisable at all times if you make the investment, make sure the cage have all around bolts, nuts and screws on its side edges, any pressure lock incorporating as a safety device / lock must be discarded.
If your brand new cage includes wheels or rolling devices, please note are not allowed, must be rendered inoperable or removed completely, keep them with you, do not attach wheels on the top of the cage neither inside the kennel. All aforementioned information has been given as advice to the customers, in order to prevent cage may be rejected by the airline before the travel.
Kennel should be roomy enough for your pet to stand and sit erect without your pet's head (including ears) touching the top, at least 10 cm in between
